shouldn't be a problem - you may get looked at slightly and it may be best to warn the bank that the debit is coming !
yes you can, because I did it. Be prepared to answer a lot of questions on the phone when the bank calls the dealer to authorise the transaction though. Check that the dealer can take SWITCH too, because mine didn't have a clue.
Yes, as long as the dealer accepts debit cards. I paid for my car with my credit card, having pre-paid in sufficient funds to cover the transaction, thus earning rather a lot of Nectar points!
If yo ucan, I would highly recommend paying all or some of it on a CREDIT card - if your limit is not high enough, pay the cash into your credit card over the counter. That way you are covered by section 75 (i think) consumer credit act 1974, where the credit card company is jointly liable with the dealer if anything were to go wrong. If the dealer (like a lot of car dealrs) close down / cease trading etc, if there are any issues with your car, the credit card company would be laible to repair them
Even if the dealer wants to charge you 2% fees this equates to 240 on the whole amount (as I said you can elect to pay only part of it on card and they would have full equal liability) and it is so worth it f a problem does develop
I did, last year. If you have the funds in your account, no problem.
It will help lots if you are paying in person rather than calling the dealer on the phone. Over the phone, it may be instantly declined due to "card not present" fraud. I assume you'd be there anyway :)
