get your self a CD/DVD lens cleaner and play that in it, they are available from most places that sell CD's or DVD's for about 5quid

if that doesn't work then get a new DVD player.

Thanx

I tried the head cleaner earlier on today and ever since then the DVD player hasn't worked. It was ok before.

I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanx
Sounds like the DVD laser is either out of line or knackered so a specialist repair is needed......
I have a Panasonic DVD/VHS. One day it just started displaying someting stupid when I tried to turn it on.

The problem was entirely due to two faulty electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. I fixed it myself for $1.40

Reasonable chance that yours is the same if it is about three or four years old. There were vast numbers of faulty capacitors manufactured in Asia around that time and many manufacturers were affected.

You may be able to see the faulty capacitors on the power PCB just by taking the lid off. The ends of the bad caps usually bulge. http://www.badcaps.net

Make sure to unplug it from the mains before removing the lid. However unless you have electronic service experience you will probably have to take it to a repair tech.
