if your employer requires you to have it, they should organise it. Individuals can't apply. Any good employer would pay for it too
I have never known an employer not support this cost - it'd be interesting to know which company is telling you to pay for this yourself.

then I suggest you toddle down to the jobcentre and have your eyes opened (or look the the jobcentre website) there are any number of jobs that expect YOU to pay for the disclosure, they may organise it but they want YOU to pay. Good employers ? what good employers, with the low demand for workers and the high availability of workers they have plenty of choice and yes when the odds are high sure your going to do your best to get the job by doing anything it takes. I'm afraid 99% of employers are scumbags
If that's your attitude maybe it is no great surprise you don't have a job.

You can't get a CRB check - the potential employer does that.

There are jobs available that don't require one.
Try jumping the fence.....you do some employing (am sure you can think of something to drum up finance & utilise people). You will appreciate what employers are up against; employees running to tribunals if you dont smile a welcome when they're late for work, etc.

At least, the foreign workers haven't learned that trick....yet!
i cant see any benefit in having a generic crb check done anyway, because each organisation will want you to have one for "them" even if you wroked for 3 employers, you would need 3
My hubby organises these checks for his workers and the school pays.

As it happens I do have a job, my sister is the one looking and naturally nursing homes etc are the most available to her, having 60 to her name really helps when she has to pay for the disclosure. As it also happens most jobs now are through agencies and basically I find working through one (like I do) a total rip off but then one needs to eat and pay bills
Hi, i've had a couple of these done now. The first company paid for it, the second paid half. The total cost is 36.
