Doubtful, i think a criminal record would have expired by now. Probly depends what you did.
I thought nowadays we simply filled in a form from the Criminal Records Bureau, they just check if you've commit any crimes and I'm pretty sure that would go back to 1965.. I've not heard of a company asking for fingerprints before. Like Potatoman says, it depends on what you've done. If you were arrested for a petty crime it probably won't matter, however,if you murdered someone back in 1965 then I doubt this company will employ you.
I though they couldn't not employ you for having a dodgy past if you've served your time! Unless the crime has something to do with the job. i.e. your trying to get a job in a bank, but have robbed banks in the past!
I don't see how they can run a fingerprint check with police records for a job application. I think this would be misuse of both sets of fingerprints. More likely they want your prints held on file for elimination purposes in the event of something happening. What an odd thing to do though! Also it may be that the police ones have a time limit on them so may have been destroyed by now but worth checking.
You're potential employer will have no access to your police file, unless you're applying for a job with the police of course! I'm not sure why they want your finger prints, but I'd be fairly certain it's not to compare with your police record.
As were 15/16 when you commited the crime, it's highly unlikely that there is a record, unless it was very serious. I know this seems an obvious/daft question, but why don't you ask the company why they want your fingerprints? It could perhaps be phrased like 'Out of curiosity why....?' or ' why do you need my fingerprints?' Seems reasonable to me to want to know the reason why. If you're in the UK have a look at- www.seequality.org.uk/exoffenders.html Most of it may be totally irrelevent, but there's bit about Police Checks and dismisal near the bottom of the page that might help. Good luck with the new job, I hope it works out ok

Wow, no offence, but folk don't half talk some b***** on this site? What's the point in answering a specific question with what you reckon might possibly be the way things might possibly be. If you're just guessing....dude, this ain't a pub chat.

-Fingerprints: this is NOT to access your criminal record. It helps eliminate you  (or otherwise) if there's a crime on the premises. Otherwise..what (from the answers I read here)...I take the fingerprints, turn up at my local nick, and say, ere, the guy with these fingers wants a job with me, is e a bit dodgy? Think!

-Convictions, for the sake of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, expire after 6 years. However, they do remain on record. For certain jobs, eg Accountancy, working with kids, doctor, there are certain convictions which should be disclosed. Even if you receive a caution/reprimand/warning, the police hold this, consider it intelligence, and will pass it on if considered relevant.
