How do cordless headphones work with a hi-fi amp? Do you need some form of adapter that plugs into the amp?

As long as your amp has got a headphone socket, a lead goes from that to a transmitting unit which broadcasts the sound to the headphones.

many thanks - I presume the lead/unit comes as part of the headphone package
I've never seen a cordless set that doesn't come with a transmitter. I think the 2 I own both came with leads to connect to the amp as well (though you may need an adaptor depending on the size of the headphone socket on your amp and the size of the supplied lead). If they don't come with a connecting lead, most hi-fi/AV/electronics shops will carry something suitable.
The set I have will operate from a tape output (i.e. you don't have to use the headphone socket.)
