I use liquid in my (clothes) washing machine instead of powder, and usually use the tesco/asda/sainsburys branded stuff.

But I was wondering what the Tesco Value (and equivalents in other supermarkets) was like, does it perform well? I use fabric softener so I'm not worried about the smell, just cleaning ability

I use Lidl stuff and it does the job ok. I do find that for tough stains I need a stain remover but I always did with the branded stuff as well.
We use Fairy due to my having psoriasis but friends of ours use Lidl's and say it is excellent.
One of the adverts shown when I was reading your question, is for a WashBall. Has anyone tried these? They cost E35 but supposed to last three years.
I use Lidl's as well and find it does the job as well as any of the others.
Personally I didn't find the washballs that great but my sister in law swears by them - however she washs whites and coloureds together.

I do use the dryer balls and find that my drying time is cut down - get them from the 1 shop
I use the Tesco value biological and am satisfied with it. If I have stains then I pre spray them with a stain remover before washing, and I dont have any problems.
I dont have young children to wash for so I dont know if if removes serious stains, but my clothes and bedding are always clean after using it.
I sometimes use the cheaper stuff, it washes the same but sometimes it does not smell as nice.
Sometimes when stuff isn't really dirty but just needs freshening, try washing without any detergent at all. It's amazing how well it works, as I discovered by accident!
Solarjunkie when my brotehr was at uni he only used washing powder in every other wash and never noticed the difference.

I think how ever well the machines rinse they never get all the washing product out of the garment
I use soap nuts, cheap - no need for softners, good for allergy sufferers, can be composted. Only down side is if you like a fragrance you would have to use an essential oil to achieve it. Wash balls not effective enough for me and that wee thing from Lakelands got stuck in a pocket more times than I care to remember. So NUTS it is .
