For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.If it wont light after several attempts and you hve checked that it is sparking and there is a gas supply available, then you probably have rust on the gas jet. The flame (when its working) has a mild steel chimney above it and after a few years of heating up and cooling down it starts to go rusty. Small bits of rust fall off and land on top of the gas jet causing it not to light.
There might, of course, be another reason for it not lighting but this is is what happened to mine.
