Statistically, am i more likely to be burgled or have my car stolen?

This arises from something that struck me today. If I have a laptop or other item of value, is it safer to bring it with me when i leave the house, and place it unseen in the boot of my locked car, or leave it at home in my locked house?

There are car crime hotspots and burglary hotspots. These can change overnight with one arrest!
Normally keeping it hidden at home would be far safer.
Buy a safe, available for house or car.

Some insurance companies policies won't even give cover for items left in a car.
