Help with my Audi TT stereo

Hi I have an Audi TT 2004 reg.

The sliver cover that covers the radio/cd player used to turn off the stereo when you closed it .

Took my car to have CD changer fitted in the boot and when I got the car back the stereo cover no loungers turns the stereo off so it still plays while down so I have to turn it off with the button.

The stereo is back ok and all looks ok
As the garage and he said he has to get some sort of code from Audi to reset it is this true?
