Most of the time there is a clip of some description.

What is the Make/Model/Year of the Car/Bike?

If it's a car headlight, one common type is a roughly U-shaped spring which has two tails.  These tails spring towards each other, hooking behind a pair of spike things.  If you can see it, it's easy, but often you can barely get your hand to it, let alone see what you're doing.

If it's this type, you find the two tails and pinch them together, pushing a little towards the bulb.  The spring will then come out and leave the bulb loose.  Make sure they don't both fly off somewhere.

Some have a bayonet fitting (but that doesn't usually have a clip).  On these, you push the bulb forwards against a spring, then twist.

Or it may be another type...
