does skype actually work???

i've been to the webpage now 5 times, and all i get is page after page of how to get connected, but no clear window or whatever to say now you are ready to make a call. in my frustration i even bought 10 euros of credit, still no difference. still going around in circles

If you want to make a call to a landline, open your Skype, click 'call phones' towards the bottom, enter the number in the box and click the green key with 'call' written on it.

You may have to enter the country code if you are phoning outside your own country.

it works very well but make sure you don't show as 'available to anyone' or else like me, you will have 79 new male Polish friends by the end of the week.

on the plus side if you leave it as available you also get rather a lot of asian women contacting you.

I use Skype quite a lot but not for telephoning. Quite few of my friends also have it installed and I've added them to my contacts list.
You need also some headphones with a microphone boom, OR as I do, a webcam, with built-in microphone plus external speakers.
The webcam I use is the Logitech Pro 9000.
To add a contact you can ask your friends to let you know their 'Skype' id, or just enter their email address in the search box. Give them a call by clicking on the round green handset icon and leave a message if they do not answer. When they next log on, they will see that you've called and , hopefully, respond accordingly. All the above costs nothing.
I was curious to see you ask 'How do I buy credit for it' as you stated in your original post that you did buy ten Euros worth.

thanx gromit, but still non of the wiser. the link took me to a dead page with again instructions and wow isnt skype really good, .. etc... but no link or way to to connect to skype. i�ve downloaded all the software, got a username etc... but seem stuck when it comes to opening up the skype webpage to make a call

You don't open a web page to make a call, you use the software which you should have downloaded and installed on your computer. If you've done it correctly, you will have a little green and white icon in the system tray near the clock (bottom right of screen). Double-click it to make a call.

or you could get amobile phone that has skype and not pay for teh calls at all if teh other person is on it as well
