despairing and elderly novice blogger seeks help
7 Answers
I'm new to blogging and borderline technophobic.
I've looked at both Wordpress and Blogger to try to find related and interesting blogs, yet all I seem to come across are endless advertisers trying to sell me something - or prolix political activists with axes to grind.
For example, I'll search on campervans and up pops hire companies trying to persuade me to travel across America or New Zealand in one of their expensive vans.
Perhaps this is naive, but can anyone tell me how to dodge the commercial highjackers so I can find genuine blogs from people (preferably in Britain) who simply enoy writing about what they're doing?
I can't be the only one feeling like a lame horse in the stalls while the rest are half-way to the finishing post.
Thank you.

I don't know about Wordpress but on Blogger when you edit your Profile, be sure to state your interests, say for instance camping. When you're done editing, save the changes and have a look at how your Blogger Profile looks now: You'll find that the words you stated as your interests have become links. Click them and you'll be directed to other Blogger bloggers who have stated the same interests as you. Neat, huh...!

...and then there are the blog directories of course (just google "blog directories" and "blog catalog(ue)s") where you'll be able to search for blogs in categories. Let's use the campervan example, you'd probably search under a category like TRAVEL. But there are thousands of blog directories so you'd be better off googling, i.e. if the blog directories do what they're supposed to do you'll find their lists through the usual search engines.
(Do submit your own blog to a couple of directories, this will help search engines find it.)

Hello Swedeheart - thank you very much. I'm an aspiring blogger and Blogger.com is my favoured medium - so I shall certainly try what you've suggested.
I did look at the help screens on Blogger, but the solutions they provide are somewhat viscous and raise more questions than answers.
Thanks once again.
