Is an out of date passport still valid? I'm filling in my student finance details and it's asked if I have a valid passport, I have a passport but it's a few months out of date, what do I put?
While it's possible that some 'non-official' people might accept your expired document as proof of identity on a discretionary basis (e.g. you might be able to use it, in some shops, as 'proof of age' to purchase alcohol), it has ceased to be valid as an actual passport. (i.e. no airline would let you travel with it, and no immigration officials would permit you to enter their country with it).
Hence the correct answer to the question you've been asked must be: "No".
If it was a 10 year passport and is not not valid for travel then the photo may not be up to date enough for visual ID, and as it does not have your address on it it is not valid for confirming your address. but it would be ok for confirming your identity for anyone who can cross check it with other sources probably. Or was it a 5 year juvenile passport?
lol tamborine - you need valid picture ID to get in. I had an old paper driving licence (in my other name) and an expired passport. Mind you, I reckon they took the view that no one would be stupid enough to try and get in unless they had to.
Sara and Cath - you do realise it's an all male prison?!!!!!
