shower light - does it use electricity??

Can anyone tell me - for a fact - whether the little red light in the bathroom with a string-pull attached, that turns on the heating for the shower, uses much electricty if left on when the shower is not in use...?

Cant say how much but anything powered by electricity willuse electricity.Its debateable how much in this case but obviously if turned off completely it wont use any.

i dont mean the red bulb itself ...i mean, is this heating the water constantly when its on? is the heater bit staying hot all the time- or is it just like switch to enable the shower to work...?


its really just because no-one knows and everyone keeps forgetting to turn it off...if they were all aware of what it was costing them, (if anything) they may remember more

As far as im aware the shower heats the water instantaneously in a small pressurised tank.
So the answer would be no.

I wouldn't even say it was as much as that..

As far as I can see a neon indicator is about 0.06watts

with a cost of 14pence per KWh that would be about 0.000202pence a day or 7pence a year

if your being charged 10p per KWh then that drops to 5p a year

badly worded question, as all of us thought you meant the light itself :)

No the shower will not be using any power if you leave the pull cord switched on (unless the shower has a neon indicator in it then see above answer)

chhers all....i dont think the light is neon - it is on the ceiling and the string pull has to be pulled so the light is on, before any power whatsoever will go to the shower... seems to just be an ordinary bulb

the light signifies power is being supplied to the shower. it only uses .7Kwh itself see earlier post thats the amount IT will use if left on all year .
The shower only uses power when being used.

problem is, the non-technical read 'neon light' and associate that with gaudy, street/shop signs! As opposed to small half inch illumination device connected across mains in things like rocker switches .-)
