can I use 2 modems

If I have an ADSL modem downstairs and wireless router to connect to a second pc upstairs,is there any reason why a second ADSL modem upstairs would not work with the second pc instead of using the wireless router

seems a complicated way of doing things

1 router would normally feed the whole house using either wired or wireless connections.
routers split the feed into a number of outputs

a modem normally is a single machine device - although using ICS you cn share the connection

yes - as long as you only have one modem connected at a time you could save carrying it upstairs .... but no you can't use them both together on the same line

that's what I thought, it's just that -using my usb dongle-the connection is weak upstairs and keeps dropping the connection so think I might try a pci wireless adaptor next

pci won't be better - it's the position of the aerial
put the dongle on a usb extension cable then you can move the aerial

what are you using downstairs?

if it's a laptop with built in wireless try taking the modem and the wireless router upstairs.

the built in aerials on most laptops are much better than any USB donlge so you might find it works perfectly well.
