washing machines vs laundrette!!!!

i go to the laundrette once a week, total cost for 1 hours wash,spin and dry is around �10.50 without including powder and conditioner from a larger packet.
if i bought a washing machine, along side my water meter,would it cost more .? i know it would take longer and i still wouldnt be able to dry it.?? cheers.

how many loads is that you wash and dry? thats really expensive I think

then again I dont have a water meter but most machines have an economy wash which I assume uses less water

thats 2 machines 1 whites 1 colours, 17 min cycle each.

They're big machines in the laundrettes aren't they? So is that two large loads? It's hard to compare really.

Why don't you carry it home wet, and hang it on the line?

That would save the drying costs.

If you bought a washing machine you would still have to dry the washing somehow.

You could buy a maiden for drying your clothes. If you give yyour washing an extra spin after using your own washing machine at home, it would dry faster. Is your load a familly load or just yours?

personally i would also take the inconveinence into account. You can ut a hme washing machine on overnight if you want, whereas you cant go to the laundrette at 10pm. Also, although it's been a long time since ive been to the landrette, i seem to remembe the whole pain of having to carry everything plus powder, find change, and then sit in a place full of smelly people waiting for machines to come free/finish. A cheap new washer is about 170 quid - about 17 weeks of washing at the laundrette. I can't coment on water as ours is not metered

I find that the way to save money at the laundrette is to go less often! If I take in a fortnight's washing it usually costs me around �12, but if I take in 4 weeks washing it only costs around �16. (Those prices are for a service wash, so I don't have to hang around or go through the hassle of getting change).

So you might actually make some savings by buying a few more pairs of socks and some extra underwear, so that you don't need to go to the laundrette so often ;-)

I was shocked by those Launderette prices,
I'm on a water meter and it doesn't cost that much to do a load. The inconvenience of taking it there when you could be doing it at home with your feet up. Or waking up in the morning to hang it out in the fresh air.If it rains so what, put it on a clothes horse,
Do it in 9lb loads, you can't have that much more. Anyway if Launderettes were that much better why do the majority of people have a washing machine? DOH!!

thankyou all for your replys. having read them all i must add that i live in a flat with no garden so hence i cannot naturally dry my clothes, i couldnt put a machine on at night the noise would keep me awake. also just 1 hour at the laundrette and its all done. i think im still not convinced.!! thanks x
