European to UK voltage

Hello folks!

I have a lamp which I bought in Europe, consequently it has a 2-pin plug. I would like to safely use this item over here in the UK, without having to constantly use a travel adapter. Can anybody please tell me if this is possible to do in a safe way & how would I go about this???! Thank you all.

not sure without seeing the lamp...but you could use a shaving plug adapter which plugs into uk plugs ..then plug your lamp in ; )

Change the plug! European voltages at 220 Volts are pretty much the same as the UK at about 240 Volts. Not so for the US which works on about 120 Volts. If you are not confident about changing a plug ask your friends. Someone will do it for you.

Thanks for the quick response! I can just about change a plug! ;-) However, I was not sure if the voltages differed or if the lack of an earth made it a safe way to do it. Thanx.

Strange european round plugs have an earth in the side of the plug. An appiance does not need to be earthed if it is double insulated.

i think all UK and europe is now 230v give or take 10 percent. This fluctuates through the day, depending on mass usage phenomena etc.

 

Cut off the 2 pin lamp plug and connect the two leads to live and neutral in the uk plug - polarity doesn't matter with a lamp.

I live and work in Germany and the UK. consequently most of my electrical items have to have their plugs changed one way or the other quite regularly. Niether the appliances or I have never had a problem with this. The voltages are so close that they all seem to be able to work in both countries.
