Vauxhall Astra heater fan

Does any one know why an interior heater fan blower on a 1999 "S" reg Vauxhall Astra has stopped working on speed 1,2,3, but only works on 4?..fuse is ok...thanks for any help

same thing happened on my n reg astra ,thers a coil kind of thing which is usually situated near the windscreen wiper motor that controls the fan speed ,your best off going to the breakers as they wont be cheap from vauxhall.

I think it is probably the heater rheostat which is situated on top of the heater motor.From memory the part costs about �25 and most garages will charge about 1 hours labour rate.
