Hi, I am on the basic sky package (not sky +), and would like to start recording programs that I wont be able to see if Im out and about. Can anyone recommend a TV recorder? That works just like a video only more modern. I tried looking into it but only got confused as there just seemed to be Digital TV Recorders but they were Freeview boxes and TV Recorders. Can I just get a good TV Recorder without the Freeview box?
Buy a DVD Recorder with integrated Digital Tuner and use that for recording from Sky. Connect it via a Scart Lead which should be supplied when buying the Recorder.
You can use any DVD or Hard Disk recorder (with or without a tuner - as the tuner part is redundant) and just record via the AV in of the recorder from the AV out of the Sky box or (or of the Telly, provided you leave the telly on).
Redman's answer is of course nonsense, as a digital tuner will not be of any use recording from satellite!
If you're going to buy something to do this, why not just go for Sky+? It's a bit pricey at just over £200 including installation, but it doesn't cost any extra per month like it used to and it is soooo easy to use. I promise you won't regret it.
When rojash dismisses my Answer as Twaddle, let me just say that I have a DVD Recorder with no Hard Drive and it will record from Sky as it has an integrated Tuner !!!!!!! It is a Panasonic SC-RT30. For Timer recordings I can use Video+ by making Sky PlusCode numbers available by entering each Sky Channels Plus Code numbers.
Stick to Computers Rojash where your expertise may lie and don't be so dismissive of other peoples input.
