My son has a large tv that he's trying to sell - took it to one of those cash converter places and they don't accept without the original remote. Anyone know how to get around this? ( Not sure if this is the right section but hope someone can help). TIA

Search On ebay for a remote for it?
You could try "espares.co.uk", they sell replacemnt remotes.
Or you could buy one of those 'generic' remote controls... again, off ebay...
What's the make and model of the TV?

Alternatively, buy an all-in-one remote control (http://uk.ebid.net/perl/auction.cgi?mo=aucti
on&auction=8540617
- £6.40 including shipping), put an ad in the local paper and sell it that way.

Many thanks for very speedy answers. It's a Beko (model unknown at present). Problem is that my son's been told that a universal remote won't tune it (perhaps you clever ABers will disagree)! He is wondering if anyone knows how to tune it WITHOUT a remote? (Trying to avoid paying out cash!) TIA
Plenty of Beko remotes on ebay when you identify the exact model:

it is true that these sets need the proper remote. Get the tv model number and look on ebay. You may also see these sold under PLAYSONIC or SCHNEIDER - I have repaired a few of those sets using beko chassis.

Also, you may do better trying to sell it privately, as those stores give you next to nothing for your stuff :-(
Put an ad in the supermarket or local paper.
