Help! Shower problem
Last night my electric shower stopped working - just my luck that hubby who knows about these things is out of the country for 4 weeks. Outside my bathroom I have a switch with a red light on it that I use to make the shower run, now the light is out and the switch felt a bit warm last night. How do I know whether it is just a fuse, or something more serious? I'm feeling completely out of my depth here, but can't afford to have someone in to fix it until I at least have an idea of what has gone wrong. 3 young teenagers & lots of long hair are making this a bit of an emergency ! - any help would be welcome. Shower is about 5 years old

So you have fuses, not breakers. It is safer to turn off the power at the main switch. Hopefully the different fuses are marked-up to say what they are - if hubby did his job properly. It is usual that an electric shower is on its own circuit with its own fuse (or breaker).
Computer should be turned off first - unless a laptop with battery back-up.

The light is just a little neon that shows whether there is electricity supply on the 'shower' side of the pull-switch.
If there is no light, there is no power at that point, so no chance of the shower working.
Start by looking at your Consumer Unit / fuseboard to see if the shower has a separate supply with its own breaker. If so, see that the breaker hasn't tripped (or fuse blown). If so, replace/reset and try once again. If the breaker trips again there is a fault with the unit or the wiring.
Occasional breeakers trip for no good reason - but it won't happen twice in quick succession unless there is a real problem.

Thanks buildersmate - I've located the fuse box - ( it helpfully says fuse box on the front) - do I need to turn off the power before pulling a fuse out of the unit? I would guess that I do, if I do, will my computer be ok ? I don't have access rights for lots of bits if it needs resetting. Hubby has just texted to say that he has arrived safely in Cape Town whilst I'm here gritting my teeth whilst the ****ing house falls down around me!! - chest freezer expired yesterday - nightmare! Bet the boiler blows up tomorrow!!! ******* !! Sorry , rant over.
