I have a disabled box outside my house in Scotland but when it was put there the man from the shop next door told me I would never get to use it as I was using his customer's parking spaces up, he told me I should park my car round the back of my house yet the council had put the box rather than alter the access at the rear to my house as there are 7 steps up to my door. He told his staff to tell him as soon as I moved my car off the box and he put his car on it even though he only lives about 800 yards away, and he had a councillor friend to write a letter which stated, "IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO PARK ON A DISABLED BOX OR A WHITE LINE AT THE TOP OF A DRIVEWAY" He had these enlarged and photocopied mega loads of them which he gave to all his customers, he also pasted them all over the door and windows of his shop to encourage his customers to park on the box. A man came round last year and I noticed that he was measuring the box so I went out to see him, he said the law regarding disabled boxes was going to change and they are going to be longer and wider, and they will be enforceable so that anybody parking on them who wasn't disabled, could be booked, whereas it isn't enforceable as present. Does anybody have any idea when the law is going to be changed as I am getting sick and tired of this blokes ignorance, he claims that I am using his customer's parking spaces yet he sometimes has his car, his son's van, and two staff's vehicles parked outside.
I think this refers to the Disabled Persons Parking Bays (Scotland) Act 2009 (bit of a mouthful) and this came into law in Scotland only on 1st October last year.
There is some readable information (not in legal jargon) about the implications here: -

However the gist is that you should contact your local authority. They are the organisation that has the power to investigate and take action, if necessary.
Many thanks buildersmate,
The sooner that I can stop this b?????d parking his cars and vans on the box, the happier I'll be. The shop owner must be in his 70's but he is a really arrogant s?d. I have told him that the disabled box is for PHYSICALLY disabled people, NOT MENTALLY disabled but he is so arrogant that he doesn't care one iota
