Are you ready for the Apple iTablet?

Apple turned music publishing on its head with the iPod and iTunes. Record shops closed and most music now is downloaded.

They reinvented the mobile phone, with the iPhone.

Now, they are plan to do the same for print publishing. A new product to be unveiled tomorrow, will introduce Apple's take on the e-reader. Many Newspapers, magazines and book publishers are said to be signed up to make their content available at the touch of a button. It will be iTunes for books and newspapers.

Do you want it? Is this the future and unavoidable? Will your books, like your CDs, be consigned to the loft to gather dust, while your reading matter lives on your shiny new Apple device?

So once again Apple take ideas that have been around for ages, slap on a pretty interface, and the world marvels at the Emperor's new clothes. My 2+1/2-year-old HTC phone does everything mentioned in that article, but because it's not made by Apple it's not front page news.

I don't think you would want to read a novel on a phone. I have, but it is hard work.

I can't personally see the appeal for the written word in this format. It's comforting / pleasurable to hold a good book in your hands. No, I don't like the idea x

The internet IS killing newspapers, sales and advertising have plummeted in the last 10 years. Ironic then, that this device is being billed as its potential saviour.

I'm not taken with this idea - I find it hard to read from a screen anyway, and I get too boss-eyed if I spend too much time texting on my phone. Nope - keep the books with pages for me!

Personally I'm waiting for the prices to drop

I'm not thinking about buying the books but when I look at all that I could download from Project Guttenberg for free I am really quite tempted.

But ath the moment I think the Kindles and e-readers etc are just a bit too steep
