Supplies for Knitting in Manchester (and tips on what to use needed)

I was watching This Morning from my sick sofa and they were doing some knitting with what looked like a really soft ribbon, although she referred to it as thread.

I've love to have a go at knitting a blanket or cushion cover to give friends when they have their children and wondered if anyone knows where I could get supplies from.

I've not knitted for a long time now and have no idea where to go locally especially for the soft thread that was used and the chunky knitting needles I'd need to go with it.

Any help much appreciated :)

Perfect! Thank you, will try and get over on Saturday.

I've managed to find the video on the site (http://www.itv.com/lifestyle/thismorning/hom

and am hoping to get some nice soft ribbon, maybe velvet, depending on cost and make a nice cushion cover :)
