Hard to push toilet button

The button on the top of the toilet is very hard to push to make the toilet flush.It works eventually after a lot of pressure. Does anyone know how this can be fixed please?

This operates a small piston/valve through a small pushrod.
You will need to remove cistern lid and strip the assy down to clean and check for worn parts. It may need the flush unit replacing .. if this is the case, you need the height of the old unit, and the make of pan/cistern to be sure to get correct model.
