My phone has just informed me that I now have an answering service (have to dial 1571 to access it) but I want my answer machine to do this for me - how do I stop the answer service? Thanks

I didn't ask for it either and we are with Sky not BT so I'm not sure what's going on at the moment. I had messages on it that were over a week old because I did not know that I had this 'service'.
1571 is free with Sky.

I agree that that damn 1571 service is a nuisance.
If you are on the phone and an incoming call attempts to contact, the stupid answering system cuts in to tell the caller - inviting them to leave a message but charging them the call cost for the privilege. It merely increases the call costs for all of us mere mortals in the long term.
