Recently, a friend and I - with over a century's-worth of real ale drinking experience between us - were told by a barmaid of around 22 that the reason we thought the ale she'd poured us was off was because our taste-buds were faulty!
I've never heard such arrant nonsense and just wondered if that sort of reply is common in the bar-trade. Perhaps this is what they're TAUGHT to say if the landlord knows his beer is a bit dodgy on the day. Well, is it?

nope, if some one tells me the beer is off, i take there word for it and try to figure out what's wrong - glasses, gas, barrel etc
No...

I would pour them another one. If that was the same then I would do as fluffy says.

Maybe she didn't pour the beer off first.
real ale has a pretty short shelf life, she should of been checking the barrel
Sounds like faulty taste buds to me.
They are not cleaning the pipes on a regular basis, plus the fact that Real Ale needs to be rested first after delivery for at least 24Hrs.
I have been a Real Ale drinker for Years and if I were you I would find another Pub with Hand Pumps where you can be served a good Pint in the way it should be served.
Breweries do not sell 'Bad' Ale, the Licensee should take pride in his Beer.
