Canon IXUS 80IS - Orange Light

I have Canon IXUS 80IS digital camera. It's quite a good little camera, but there's one irritating thing. While the camera is focussing (when I've got the shutter button half pressed), a bright orange light lights up on the front, next to where the viewfinder is. Generally it's not a big problem, but it does nearly blind people if I'm taking close-sih photos of people.

It's obviously meant to do it, but it annoys me. I'm thinking of upgrading my camera anyway. I like Canons, but do they all have this orange light?

Think you will find this is the ..'red eye correction'..feature.... I bet you dont suffer with red eyes in your images when using this camera.

probably just a range finder to help the camera estimate where to focus.

both of the above are correct.

it's a auto focus assist light for low light conditions, and red eye reduction, it also acts as the self timer countdown indicator.

and yes most cannon point and shoot cameras have it.
