You give some money to your bookmaker.

You pick a horse.

If the horse does well, the bookmaker gives you a much larger sum than you gave him.

You book a holiday in the Caribbean.

If the horse does badly, your bookmaker keeps your money.

Your bookmaker books a holiday in the Caribbean.

LOL Jogger Jayne thats about all we know too.....thats y we didnt part with a lot of our pennies............
If you placed a £10 win bet on Don't Push It at 10-1 then you would get back 10x10 = £100 + your stake (=£10) for a grand total of £110.

Each way bets are a touch more complicated but straightforward to explain if necessary.

If you had £1 each way on a horse you're making two bets. £1 is bet that it will win the race, the other £1 that it will be 'placed'. That means in the first 4.
If you backed a 10-1 winner your £1 to win get you £11. Your £1 place bet get you 1/4 of the odds of a win 2.5/1=£3.50
So, £1 EW on a 10-1 winner gives a return of £14.50
