Renewing Provisional License...

Hi there, just wondered if anyone knows what I can do here, basically I've had a letter saying my Provisional License needs to have the photo updated otherwise I could be fined ten grand, and it's going to cost me £20 (plus photo costs) to do it, which I can't afford at the moment and I basically don't want to. I don't see the point of having a provisional license anymore as I'm not going to have driving lessons, never have and probably won't anytime in the future, or ever. Do I actually HAVE to update my provisional, or can I just let the thing lapse? I have no idea about this...

Is this letter you got genuine? Just let it lapse if you don't intend to take driving lessons.

Hi, yes it has a form to fill in with it and send back to the DVLA and all the other bits and pieces of paper they send you. Can I just forget about it then? I presume you can only be fined if you are caught using it, and as I have absolutely no intention of getting in the drivers seat at any point then that's not going to happen.

I would send it all back with a covering letter explaining that you no longer wish to hold a provisional licence, make a copy of letter and obtain proof of posting. This should save you receiving more letters .Better to close the issue than leave it pending.

Yes you have to renew your provisional licence for learning driving and taking theory test.

Thanks all for your replies, I emailed the DVLA and I indeed have to send it back with a covering letter explaining I no longer wish to hold a license.
