delete doesnt work - is there a "fast key"

MY "delete" key on my laptop has stopped working. Is there a "gast key" (you know like F1, F2 " etc that works for this. Come to think of it is there a list any of you have of "fast keys" generally?

What are you actually seeking to do with the 'Delete' key?

Apart from the few times I have to hit Alt-Ctrl-Delete I never use mine. It's presence on a keyboard is a throwback to the early days of Unix systems. Windows applications have always been designed to use the 'Backspace' key instead, so I can't see why you can't simply use that.

if you're typing on Word (or on AB for that matter) and you want to delete the last couple of sentences or something, just highlight them and resume typing: your new typing will obliterate the old stuff you had highlighted.

do they mean the backspace key though? in my experience most users don't realise they are different things.

If you mean the backspace key evedawn then there is no other alternative to use really, if you mean the delete key then there is an alternative key if you have a number pad on the laptop, ctrl+ the full stop on the number pad will do delete (but as chris said, this is rarely used)

thanks all - my laptop has suddenly gone haywire...lots of things aren't working and it's sooooo slow. The backspace key also doesn't work by the way so thats not an option. I will however try the Cntrl and fullstop on the numberrs pad thanks....I was working on powerpoint by the way.

PS I'm on AB on the desktop now...not laptop
