CHANGE OF EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT

My brother has been asked to sign a new contract of employment with which he isn't happy. Basically his employer wants to reduce his hourly rate of pay and change his working week from mon-fri 39 hours to 39 hours over a 7 day week. They have also included a 13 week lay off clause where he would only be paid for the first 5 days. He has worked for them nearly 20 years. Does anyone have any clue as to what would happen if he does not sign the contract?
