GAS BBQ - how do I make it cook evenly

It has controls for the left and right sides but if I set them both to the same temerature one side burns and the other side hardly cooks - its been the same eversince I got it - is there some magic trick to arranging the coals ?

that sounds like you have a duff one IMO. Take all the coals off, light it and look at the flames. Are they the same both sides, are there gaps in the pattern etcet? Can you adjust the regulators so that the flames are even?
