I have a a presta valve on my bike and have a pump that you can use on both types of valves, when trying to pump up the tyres that were only slightly down the air came out instead of in, so now i have completely flat tyres and cannot get any air in! I have followed the instructions that came with the pump, which is just a picture, but it doesnt work. The pump i have is one that has a lever at the back that you push down to lock it onto the valve but i cant do this. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong?
Thanks.

Are you unscrewing the thin central 'bit' on the Presta valve before attaching the pump and inflating? As Presta valves are thinner in diameter than the more standard Shraeder type, you may have to unscrew the pump's nozzle and turn around a rubber bung inside to ensure correct fit. Push the pump firmly down to the base of the valve before locking the back lever and don't forget to screw up the central 'bit' you unscrewed initially...

''you unscrewed initially...'' ... when inflated.
