i have lived here for about 15 years and had the same landline for that time...yet over the years and more so recently i keep getting calls asking for a Mrs Mc\kenna...and i am not mrs mckenna...

this house stood empty for over 50 years before i moved in

who is this and why is she registered at my number?

at first i thoight it was an excuse to call me, as one person just said " oh sorry, well can i ask ypur name and if you want this offer blah blah"...but most dont ask that.

what can i do about it?

im not actually that bothered about its just weird, but its still a bit annoying

thanks

Why not ask them where they got your number.
Someone`s just got their wires crossed with Mrs McKenna`s number. I had a funny, very camp man who used to leave messages on my answerphone for someone who incidently had the name as me. I`m away a lot so I never managed to catch him then one day i managed to race to the phone and speak to him to tell him I`m not the person he`s looking for.
When they phone, can`t you ask them who they are, who Mrs McKenna is and tell them to take her number off their database/telephone book etc?

as 237SJ says you prob have a similar number. our home number was one digit different from the health centre. we used to get some amazing calls!
could be simple explanation such as this Mrs McKenna once filled in a form with her number on, it was read incorrectly and relayed to many other sales companies.

Or she has given it as a false number to avois something. We get calls for someone who lived here 15 years ago, who had a different number but is giving ours out for current debts for some reason.
Or maybe a Mrs McKenna with a similar number filled some sort of survey in and gave your number in error or the number was mistyped
we used to get lots of calls for our number - but in Birmingham; some glitch, presumably in the exchange, wasn't reading the city code right.

Incidentally, have you actually asked any of these callers what number they were wanting? It might be they're making an accidental error in keying in the numbers (the way I keep typing teh or tyhe). Or it may be Mrs M just accidentally gave out her number wrongly to a lot of friends.

cheerrs, yeh i think that was probably it originally redcrx...i did think that myself...but thsi has been 15 years, same name....surely theyer not using same lists...?

they are just sales people, hopkirk, they will just have a list

i used to get calls for a mrs prendergast when i first got my mobile number...but they stopped after a year or two...
Years ago I used to get calls to book a room for the local hotel, their no/ was one digit different to mine, I got fed up explaining "Wrong No/" because some wouldn't believe me. In the end I used to book 'em a room, it probably caused a lot of confusion, but it wasn't long before it all stopped.

Hi, This is Mrs McKenna here. Are there any messages for me?
I am now quite good friends with a bloke in Ireland that I constantly kept phoning instead of my husband as their mobile numbers are so close. We have long conversations these days and know quite a lot about each other! ;o)
When the new Tesco opened near us, their number was one digit different form ours...we got some interesting calls till they changed numbers.
I used to have a very similar number to a male friend called Joe. I answered the phone one day and a man asked for Joe..........I recognised the callers voice and said "Hello Phil" to which he replied "Ann what are you doing at Joe's?"...........(that's how rumours start)
craft, this may be a big coincidence, but you can guess what my first name is and probably also my 2nd in view of the fact that I am answering this thread. I am sure that we don't have a similar phone number though!
// (the way I keep typing teh....//

jno - i've got that same affliction as well - i thought i was teh only one - what a relief .

Why this particular word - strange isn't it .

( sorry joko for ambushing your thread )
I too always type 'teh' instead of 'the'. It's a real effort to get it right. I'm convinced I type teh letters in teh correct order but get tehm teh wrong way round every time.
Anyone know teh reason?
people make up numbers when dealing with credit could be that i haven't had any for months now then at 1Am the other morning i got two when i answered the second time she apologized and told of the number would now be taken off the system but phoning someone at that time is illegal lucky i was still up!!
cherrychapstick... please tell us more about this law that says phoning someone at 1am is illegal as I have never seen it!!!
My previous number was one digit different from the GPO in Newcastle. I had to tell people in my answer machine greeting that they were not through to the Post Offfice.
At our old house our phone number was very similar to the local cinema, the amount of calls we got asking what was on!!

This was of course before the advent of 0870 etc numbers that cost a fortune.

Also, when I was a teenager (forever ago!!) a group of us had arranged to go out and I had to call one male friend to confirm details.
I duly rang him, had a long chat about the arrangements and we both eventually realised I had rung the wrong number. His name was the same and he had a friend with my name who he was waiting to hear from!! Spooky!
