How do you search for a relative who was born around 1910 and find out if he had children and if so their names?
Hope someone can help. I've done lots of research for family trees upto 1901 but not afterwards.
The person shopuld be on 1911 census. If you post details Im sure we will try to help you. As jack said, after that date you can find out when they married and then any subsequent children, with a bit of digging of course
Is the 1911 census available?
The person I'm looking for is a William Longstaff born around 1910 in North Yorkshire (Leyburn area) and died in the Richmond area in early 1990s. William may not be his first name.
I have come across a Joseph William Longstaff born 1911in Durham Western and died 1994 in Durham Western which could tally.
What I know of him is he was on a farm in the Leyburn area and transported cattle and had three sons. His death was announced in the local paper at the time, this could have been the Northern Echo or another one.
If only I could get chance to read the announcement this would give me some answers to my questions.
There is a William Longstaff at 9 Pierson Street North Ormesby in 1911. He is the son of Frederick J Lonstaff (b 1873) and Jane (b 1878). All were born Middlesborough, although the two children born after William were born in North Ormesby.
Middlesborough doesn't really tally with my research but will look into it. I'm nearly sure his father would have been in farming as William was working at one of the Feldom Farms in late 1920s. Thank you Rose.
Hi coccinelle, I looked at this and the registration district for Leyburn up to 1936 should show in the index for his birth if he was born there, but changed to Wensleydale or Richmond after that date, have you the names of any siblings?

Certainly the Feldom area was covered by the Richmond RD.
Thank you dot. I think it'll be like finding a needle in a haystack quite honestly as I have no names of anybody else in the family and though I know he lived in the Leyburn area I don't know if he was born there. I think I'm going to have to look for all the William Longstaffs who died in the 90s in the Leyburn area and work from there.
Thank you again.
