My Vax went like that the other week and the belt had snapped that drives the brush roller thing round. Got a pack of 2 new ones for £4.
Give us something to go on, is it an upright hoover (and is it actually a hoover, or a vacuum cleaner of another make?)

If it's an upright Dyson they tend to block up in the sole plate.

If it's a dyson it might be the belt has just come loose. unscrew the panel round the brush and put it back on the metal rod. easy peasy

its a vaccum cleaner, upright, typhoon, was only 50quid.hmm cud be the belt,i have rang my catalogue where i got it from,4 months ago and they said send it back for a refund but i have to pack it up 'appropriately' for transit back to the factory, its more hastle trying to find something to package it in than try and get it fixed myself, and yes i am a woman!
Chuck fixed my Dyson.. he's usually right ;o)
If the motor slows down when you disconnect the hose then your problem is a blocked hose.
You no have velly suckymoto?
I am pretty good at sussing at hoovers but unfortunately need to look at it - there could be numerous problems.
