There's this guy I met online and yes, I would say we are good friends but I'd never meet him or anything like that or tell him personal information because there is always that risk! Anyway so I normally talk to him on MSN or through email but he hasn't been on in months. He does this quite alot like he goes through phases of coming on for a while then he doens;t come on for ages but it might sound stupid but I do get worried about him! I just think, what if something has happened to him and I would never know? I know he's probably fine and it's just me being stupid but is there a way to see when somebody last signed in to their hotmail account?
I know most of you will be like 'why do you even care if you don't know him in real life?' but then I guess it is just me being stupid....

No, and any sites that claim they will tell you information like that are more than likely just trying to get you to enter your hotmail login details so they can hack your account.
How can you meet someone on line?
Why not just ask him to warn you when he's going to disappear if you are such "good friends".

I'd be very very cautious especially, with the greatest of respect, at your age. He really could be anyone.
One day he will contact you and say he is stuck in a hospital somewhere and needs £5000 for the medical bill.

You send it to him (or some such figure) and then you never hear from him again.

Then you realise you have been scammed.

Dont trust people you have met on the interent.
Here is an example how scammers work on the internet, pretending to be friends.

I know, I know.. something COULD happen but all his pictures are 100% of the same person, he's had pictures of him alone, him and friends and it's always the same guy. He has had another girlfriend who I got to know and she is 100% not a con, she has been on webcam to show me her outfit once and she was what she said she was. She told me she had spoken to him and they had talked of going to meet up but nothing was certain yet and I tried to steer it away from her, I would never meet him until she had met him (although I don't think this will happen) because I know she is real. And finally in relation to that link VHG why would you give someone your money you didn't know?!! I've known this guy for about 2 and a half years now and not once has he asked me to meet him or give him money or anything and if he did no way would I give it to him.
And yes, I still know that despite all this, it COULD happen... but I'm just saying! :P
_sophie_ you can be conned by anyone, people you meet in a bar or Disco etc you seem to have your head screwed on about protecting your details, just email and ask if he is ok, or leave it and try to stop fretting.
I am a lady of a certain age and I have exchanged real names, addresses and emails with people on here. Just tread carefully as you seem to be doing.
the board is feeling paranoid tonight isn't it - I've met loads of people off the internet and am yet to be murdered, conned etc. In fact I've met someone I first spoke to here on the answerbank and not only didn't she kill me she turned out to be rather nice.

anyway back to the question - no you won't be able to track a persons email activity, try not to worry like you say he'll prob pop up at some point
