Leave the phone for about an hour, I think it re-sets itself.
do you know the person who called you on the landline?
have they got a mobile number you can ring to say oii! put your %*&@ing phone own!!
Look on the bright side, they are running their bill up.

Other than that, wait, if it's not cleared soon you'll need to either contact the other party another way and tell them to hang up, or if not possible contact BT and get them to end the call. (I'm not sure if it does re-set after an hour, if it did then all phone calls would be cut off after an hour)
Chuck, I think it re-sets if there is no conversation or one reciever is put down, I remember a similar problem happening to me years ago, I was told about it then by BT operator, I think I got it right.
press recall, get your 2nd dial tone & make the call you wanted to
make.

thanks guys, it's cleared now thank god. It was a old guy I dont think he knew, also I dont really know him it was a work call so there would be no way of ringing him on a mobile. If he cant work a landline I dont suppose he even has a mobile. thanks guys I thought I would ask straight away instead of standing here like a plum. much..oss
