connecting a sony bravia tv and a laptop to play dvds

I have tried the above by pluging a hdmi lead into the tv and laptop but the tv says theres no connection ..how can i make this connection

As you've not mentioned what sony laptop it is, what version of windows you are running (or if you are running windows at all) then giving more detailed advice isn't really possible. it will tell you in the manual how to enable the HDMI though. (or just restart the laptop with the HDMI connected and it will possibly start up with the port enabled)

If your keyboad has a picture of two little screens on the F5 key then try that while holding down the FN key at the same time (it might be on a different key to F5 as it can vary by exact model, but acers are normally F5)
There are 3 settings it will toggle between, laptop display only, both displays, external display only, if you are playing DVD's then you are best off setting to external display only for best frame rates.
