why so many spiders?

Why is it that every time we get round to early Autumn/Sept there seems to be an overabundance of Spiders everywhere --espcially in the house?
Seem to be forever bumping into small webs made by small spiders ( corners of windows are covered in them) and watching monster spiders chase across the floor in front of the telly.
This is a phenomenon which is most common at this time of the year. Does anybody know WHY ?

Because they sense the change in the season and are coming inside for the winter. Particularly noticeable if it's going to rain. I absolutely hate them.

Spiders are in the house all the time and they don`t come indoors for warmth at all, and when you put them outside they are likely to die from the cold. They also don`t come up plug holes in the bath or sink, as they are hiding away in the day and come out looking for flies and a drink of water from the bath, but then can`t climb out again. All British spiders are harmless. Take a look at the advert to the right of this post `Pictures of Every Spider`
ttfn - the idea that adults swallow eight spiders in a lifetime is a myth.
It's actually one of the very first Internet myths - a woman put it up to see how long it would take to spread - not long it seems!

what an interesting theory pips, I've not heard that one. I like conkers too, there are three in my bag at the moment, I picked them up on the way from the station this afternoon.
Now slugs -- who keeps bringing slugs in downstairs? I have disposed of four in the last couple of weeks, they've been sliddering about all over the place. Can't think why, there is nothing for a slug as far as I can see why are they appearing, how do they get in?
