tumble Dryer
14 Answers
My tumble drier has broken down so I've started to take towels and bedlinen to the laundrette. I can get two loads of laundry washed,dried and folded for £6.50. Also I just leave it in one day and collect it the next and for a bit extra, duvet covers are ironed.
It is really convenient, but feels a bit extravagent.
Would it be cheaper just to continue to do this rather than fix the drier / buy a new one, than wash and dry it myself?
I've always thought the drier was costly to use. Does anyone know how to work out a comparison?

I tumble probably four loads max a week (there is only the two of us) and the saving was negligible. Added to which you don' have to trek around with your laundry.
I don't ever iron anything that doesn't need it, so I wouldn't press duvet covers, just fold them smoothly, so I can't compare with that.

to work out how much the drier costs to run, take the power consumption in kilowatts from the plate on the back, mulifply it by the amount you pay for a unit of electricity (this will be on your electricity bill) and multiply that by the number of hours per week that you use it for example;
2.2KW X 8pence X 6 hours =£1.05 per week
I am guessing these figures so you will have to substitute your own to get an accurate answer.
