Hi, Built in 900G about 10years old. Both oven and grill fire up and work o.k. but sparking ignitor continues to spark whilst burner on. Anyone out there encountered this problem? Do I need to replace the ignition generator module? Any help/advice appreciated.

regards.

Sticking contacts on the igniter switch perhaps ?

As it's sparking then there is no problem with the igniter unit itself.

Its more likely to do with the FFD (flame failiure device) It does not know its alight and keeps sparking. There is a small metal probe which sits in the flame to sense the heat, sometimes they can bend out of the flame. But usually its the FFD. It will cost 100.00 plus to repair if it is.

Hi richfo, if it was the FFD at fault wouldn't that inhibit the gas supply to the burners? The ignition generator is electronically controlled from a circuit board that checks out o.k. I can't see the circuit that should inhibit the spark generation, unless its a time thing done within the spark generator module - that's why I'm thinking its suspect.

Hi,

Not an answer as such, but : I have the same oven and have the exact same problem, except that if I open the door to the oven just slightly, the sparking stops !!

If I close the door completely the sparking starts again (even though the gas is alight.)

So, I have got round the problem by making the door not shut quite all the way (about 5-10mm).

Thanks gold 682 -that's interesting, I'll give it a try. I've noticed that when both oven & grill are on at the same time the sparking stops. Stoves say that the fault could be; Ignition/Spark Generator faulty, Lack of Oxygen or  Faulty Electrodes. Would require a visit from their engineer to diagnose at a cost of 80+Labour+Parts+Vat!!! Its probably not worth shelling out.
