Motor Insurance claim
I have recently been involved in a motor accident and intend to claim against the
other parties Motor Insurance for damaged incurred to my car.
The other party have stated that they do not want matters to go through their insurance
and have asked me to wait 48 hours in order to give them time to arrange for a garage
to carry out the repairs to my car.
I have contacted my own Insurance company and they have advised me that the other
party are in fact insured and perfectly legal.
My question is this - The accident happened last Thursday and I have been asked to wait
48 hours - is there a time limit for making Insurance claims for motor accidents and do you think that the request made for me to wait for 'garage arrangements ' to be made is a delaying tactic so that if I eventually need to resort to claiming on their insurance I will be out of some sort of time limit?
I have tried ringing their Insurance Company but they are closed until next Monday.
Any advise would be most appreciated.

The person you're claiming against might have points on his/her license and is trying to avoid his insurance premiums going through the roof.

You've done the right thing by notifying your own insurers promptly, let them deal with it. If the other guy decides to settle the claim himself without involving his own insurers, that's up to him. If in doubt, claim on your own cover and let them sort out recovery either from him or his insurance company. If you have protected bonus cover, it shouldn't make a difference to your next renewal premium.
How will they be covering your claim for any expenses, loss of value on the car, any personal injury that may develop as a result, and hopw are they preventin you havin increased premiums, cos most insurers now hike up yout premium if you claim whether it;s off them or the other party, as you become an increased risk.
