How To Prevent Nightmares

As above, advice on how to prevent nightmares - including medical, magical or psychological.
Also happy to hear about why nightmares come about and why they can't be "prevented."
A question asked by a friend recently in t'pub - I thought we might get a good debate out of it.

I just try to think of something nice that has happened that day or week/month just before i drop off to sleep and usually end up dreaming about that or something similar...........i am Bill Murray's character in Groundhog Day MANY times......lol
Just found this on the net, as is interesting.....i dont smoke, i do have tea or hot chocolate and light'sh snack at night about an hour before i get to bed....and try to clear my mind of all stress, if any, so as not to dream about something bad.

I seldom have nightmares, apart form being chased down the road by Dougal the dog from 'The Magic Roundabout', but it's got Docspock's face..........aaaarrrrgghhhhh!!!!

I regularly have terrible nightmares, at least a couple of times a week. Sometimes I will wake up crying histerically and other times I will physically last out in my sleep. I don't think there is anything you can do about them though. I could have had the best day in the world with nothing on my mind and I might still have a nightmare. I am a worrier in general and have a terrible habit of grinding my teeth in my sleep. Perhaps they are all connected.
