At a guesse I would say that you make some heavy stock up into liquid form and then evaporate off the liquid, mill the remaining solids into a uniform granular form and then compress the granules into cube shape under temperature.
When you add boiling water to the crumbled cube, the contents of the original stock no doubt liquify again and Hey Presto!!!
But it is only a guesse.............rut.
