I live near carlisle and have been looling to buy snow chains for my mondeo. on ebay they retail for £29.95 plus £7.95 postage. anyone know of a comparable set available in carlisle, which is nearest large town to me?
never tried it myself but i once heard that wire garden borders (ie the green wire type thingy) can work..just cut it to the correct length and wrap it around the wheel and twist the ends to secure it.
Snow chains and studded tyres are not illegal in the UK.
What is illegal is causing damage to the roads whilst using them, they are more trouble than they are worth, you would have to remove them on a clear road then put them back on as soon as you get back on to snow, you might have to do this every few minutes and probably get fined for causing an obstruction.
thanks toureman. i contacted them and they assured me chains are legal. im in the countryside and they will be a great help. and toureman has saved me money too, so im pleased.
I got my snow chains today and im now prepared for the worst the winter can do. i tried them on in the driveway and theres no problem regarding clearance.
