You're working overtime to help me today, Chuck, many thanks!
I thought that might be the case. Actually I was wondering about a reversed-charge call from France: the family is due to fly in to Birmingham from San Francisco via Paris on Monday, and I wondered how they could contact us to warn of snow delays if we've already left for the airport. I think I'll have to get someone to man the landline and relay the news to us.
It may not help (depending on your trip time to Birmingham) but you can check the airport arrival and departure times in france before you leave for the airport, which should give you a pretty good idea of how things are going.

I've assumed Charles De Gaulle airport.

Yes of course it will help, Chuck. I can't think why I didn't think of that - I was already planning to check departure from San Fran but for some reason never thought of checking the interchange at C de G. We're only 30 mins from the airport. Obviously my mind has gone blank with the excitement of seeing everyone again!

PS forgetting my manners - thank you again.
