I have a HP Compaq 6730 Laptop and a pop up sais you should change your battery of switch to main powers outlet. I always have this plugged in to the mains, and there is only a battery in the laptop, does this mean i need to buy a new battery for it, also can i use it without the battery, as when i tried and took it out, nothing happened, thank you

My Toshiba does a similar thing as the battery cannot now hold a decent charge. I leave the battery. in keep it plugged in and ignore the popup.

wont even turn on now, so do i need a new battery, as i only have a charger with this laptop that plugs into the mains

Perhaps it wasn't a good idea to remove the battery and then switch off after you nad finished a session. You may have lost data. Until I get a new, expensive battery I will leave things as they are. With the old battery in, switch on to charge it for an hour or so and try booting up again. You might be lucky. That's as far as I can help short of seeing the laptop. Surprised they isnt one of the experts around to help.
