Re: Buying a UK television and using it in Cyprus?

Transmitting system in the UK is
I PAL Nicam
and in Cyprus
B,G PAL
Info from
http://www.videouniversity.com/standard.htm
If the set has a multi-standard tuner then it should be OK, if not it may receive picture but not sound as the standard is different.
TVs can be modified for different standards but it's not usually a cheap option

Taking into account transportation costs, warranties etc. it's probably just as easy (if a little more expensive) to purchase a set locally
99.9% of TVs made nowadays will work just about anywhere in the world, the problem used to be the cathode ray tube had to have different settings which were difficult to change. Now a days with LCD or LED screens all the signal decoding is done by a micro processor, much like you would find in a computer. I spent three years out there with the armed forces and all my LCD TVs worked fine. As Invictas mentioned shipping costs could be expensive and you have to pay a high import duty on any item shipped into Cyprus that is available to buy on the local market.
It WILL work :-) and as it is your holiday home you are probably aware that it is supplied with 230v 50 hz frequency and will not even need an adapter or the plug to be changed.
